Kevin Atwater Awaits First Child as Chicago P.D. Season 14 Unfolds

Season 14 Premiere Recap and Current Storyline

Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) is gearing up to welcome his first child, a storyline that took a dramatic turn during the Season 14 premiere of Chicago P.D. The episode, titled “Demolition,” returned to NBC on Wednesday, October 7 2024, and quickly became a focal point for fans eager to see how the Intelligence Unit’s newest personal challenges intersect with the ongoing homicide investigations.

Key Moments from the “Demolition” Episode

As the unit pursued a corrupt parole officer, Atwater received a frantic phone call from his partner, Officer Tasha Fox (Karen Obilom), who was in Florida. While grabbing coffee, Atwater confessed that he felt “the baby was on the way,” hinting at the growing excitement and anxiety surrounding the impending arrival. His teammate Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) quipped that his frequent calls could drive Fox “insane,” adding a light‑hearted touch to the tense moment.

After the call, the team’s focus shifted to a homicide case involving Officer Eva Imani (Ari Mandi). Atwater helped disarm and apprehend the suspect within minutes, showcasing his quick thinking under pressure. The adrenaline of the arrest was short‑lived; just minutes later, Fox confirmed she was in labor, prompting Atwater to rush to the hospital with the support of his colleagues, including Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Fleuger), who offered a ride to the airport.
