Flash Flood Warnings Expire for Maui and Hawaii Island
The National Weather Service allowed the flash flood warning for Maui and Hawaii Island to expire Thursday evening, marking an end to the severe weather that affected the islands.
Weather Summary and Current Conditions
As of 7:18 p.m., no watches, warnings, or advisories were in effect across the state. The warning had been issued for windward portions of Hawaii Island as a lingering area of moisture persisted over the eastern part of the state. Meanwhile, a flash flood warning was canceled for East Maui as heavy rainfall diminished in that area.
Impact on Schools and Roads
Hana High and Elementary School in East Maui were closed Thursday due to heavy rain and road closures. The Hawaii News Now First Alert Weather Team declared Thursday a First Alert Weather Day for Maui County and Hawaii.
Forecast for Friday and Halloween
Improving conditions and drier air have already moved over Kauai and Oahu, with further improvement expected for Maui County and Hawaii Island overnight. Some localized heavy rain may persist into Friday for windward East Maui and windward Hawaii Island, but more stable conditions should prevail by Friday afternoon statewide.
For Halloween trick‑or‑treating, scattered showers are possible mainly for windward and mauka areas on the eastern end of the state.
Safety Recommendations
Residents and visitors should remain cautious, avoid flooded areas, and stay tuned to local weather updates. The First Alert Weather Team will continue monitoring conditions and provide alerts as needed.
