Scott Hanson’s NFL RedZone Future: What’s Next After His Four-Year Deal?

NFL RedZone host Scott Hanson is not “married” to his current role, leaving fans and analysts wondering what lies ahead for the beloved whiparound show host. As Hanson enters the second year of a four-year contract with NFL Network, speculation grows about his long-term plans.

Hanson’s Current Role and Contract Details

Hanson has been the face of NFL RedZone since its debut season in 2009. His current four-year deal with NFL Network began in 2023, and he is currently in the second year of that contract. Despite his deep ties to the show, Hanson recently expressed openness to exploring other opportunities in the future.

Negotiations and Past Tensions

Before the 2025 season, Hanson’s status with NFL RedZone was briefly in doubt. After months of stalled negotiations, he ultimately re-signed, but the process was anything but smooth. In an interview with the SI Media Podcast, Hanson revealed that the back-and-forth discussions with the NFL nearly led to his departure:

“There was a time when I thought ‘I don’t know if this is going to happen.’ It was not my intention to have it go that direction. But you have to be willing for that eventuality or that possibility.”

The NFL ultimately prevailed in retaining Hanson, but the ordeal highlighted the league’s strict negotiation tactics and the host’s own leverage in the media landscape.

NBC and Olympic Opportunities

During the protracted NFL negotiations, Hanson was reportedly courted by NBC, which sought to bring him aboard for its Olympic coverage. He ended up working with NBC on its “GoldZone” show during both the 2024 Summer Olympics and the 2026 Winter Olympics. That experience may have broadened his horizons and reinforced his value as a versatile sports broadcaster.

What Lies Ahead?

While Hanson remains committed to NFL RedZone through at least 2027, he has not ruled out future moves. His comments to Outkick’s Bobby Burack suggest a pragmatic mindset:

“I love my job. I give everything I’ve got to ‘RedZone.’ I hope I’ve been good for the NFL. But if I were to go somewhere else, I would want that show or endeavor to thrive in a way that it hasn’t ever thrived before.”

For now, fans can expect Hanson to continue anchoring the high-energy, commercial-free coverage that has made NFL RedZone a Sunday staple. But the question of what comes next—and whether he will ever leave the NFL fold—remains wide open.
