Mourinho Defends Mbappé Amid Controversy
Real Madrid manager José Mourinho has forcefully defended Kylian Mbappé after the French forward’s injury with France and his subsequent recovery away from the club sparked a wave of criticism. The Portuguese coach called the media reaction “ridiculous” and confirmed that the star will be available for the upcoming match against Villarreal.
Background of the Injury and Recovery
Mbappé suffered a knee injury on 25 September during a Nations League match against Turkey, forcing him to leave the national team camp. After returning to Paris, he was seen cycling in Switzerland as part of a low‑impact rehabilitation program. The images led to speculation about the severity of the injury and the player’s commitment, but Mourinho emphasized that the activity was medically approved and part of a structured recovery plan.
“The media is searching for problems where there are none,” Mourinho said.
Mbappé Set to Face Villarreal
In his pre‑match press conference, Mourinho confirmed that Mbappé will be in the squad for Saturday’s La Liga clash with Villarreal. “He has been assessed, the diagnosis is clear, and the recovery protocol is on track,” the manager stated. He added that any speculation about the player’s condition was “a search for problems that does not reflect reality.”
Vinícius Júnior’s Form and Support
Mourinho also addressed the form of Vinícius Júnior, who has been below his usual standards this season. The manager acknowledged the Brazilian’s desire to return to peak performance and stressed that he deserves patience rather than criticism. “Vinícius wants to be the difference‑maker again, and I feel his pain,” Mourinho said. “He works hard every day to regain his confidence, and we must support him.”
With the match against Villarreal approaching, the focus shifts to how Real Madrid will line up and whether Mbappé‘s return will bolster their attack. The coach’s defense of his players underscores the club’s confidence in their medical staff and the team’s overall strategy.
