Bill Ritter Honored with Times Square Billboard for Alzheimer’s Awareness
Times Square, Manhattan — In a striking demonstration of courage and community, longtime ABC7 anchor Bill Ritter has been honored with a massive billboard in Times Square as the new face of CaringKind, a leading Alzheimer’s caregiving organization. The tribute comes as Ritter continues to share his personal journey with Alzheimer’s disease, using his platform to reduce stigma and promote brain health.
A Voice for Alzheimer’s Community
Ritter, who publicly disclosed his diagnosis earlier this year, has become a powerful advocate for those living with Alzheimer’s and their families. He frequently speaks about the importance of openness, encouraging others to seek support and connection.
“I have so many people who have come up to me and said ‘I have only told one or two people that I have Alzheimer’s’ and I said don’t, open yourself up, they’re gonna want you, they’re gonna want to hug you, and what is more beautiful than that, we need to be doing that, let’s bring people together,” Ritter said.
The partnership between ABC7 and CaringKind includes on‑air stories, community events, and educational resources aimed at normalizing conversations about brain health.

The billboard, which went up this week, features a portrait of Ritter alongside the message “Know the Signs, Break the Stigma.” It is part of a broader campaign by CaringKind to bring Alzheimer’s awareness into everyday conversations. Eleonora Tornatore‑Mikesh, president and CEO of CaringKind, praised Ritter’s commitment, noting that seeing a familiar face like his helps many feel less isolated.
Upcoming Alzheimer’s Walk & Brain Health Day
The campaign’s centerpiece will be the 38th annual Alzheimer’s Walk & Brain Health Day on Saturday, Oct. 17, in Central Park. For the first time, the event will offer free brain health pre‑screenings, providing an opportunity for participants to start a conversation with their doctors. Registration and fundraising details are available on the CaringKind website.
