Trump Says He Could Do “Whatever I Want” Amid Renewed Impeachment Speculation
In a Wednesday Oval Office remarks, former President Donald Trump told reporters that he could “do whatever I want,” including taking action against prominent Democrats such as former Presidents Joe Biden and Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The comments came after he announced the rollout of Trump Accounts, tax‑advantaged investment accounts for children created under his administration earlier this year.
Background on Trump’s Impeachment History
Trump was impeached twice during his first term. The first impeachment, in December 2019, stemmed from a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in which Trump allegedly pressed for an investigation into Biden, then his political rival. The second impeachment, in January 2021, followed the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, with a charge of incitement of insurrection. The Senate acquitted him both times.
“I thought it was inappropriate to do so because you have to treat the office of the presidency with respect,” Trump said. “Then I found out that they impeached me twice. I certainly, even to this moment, I can do whatever I want, if I want.”
